Technology Strategy & Transformation

Legacy Infrastructure Transformation

Anonymised client engagement

From complex legacy infrastructure to a simpler cloud-first environment

Challenge

The organisation was operating an increasingly complex technology environment built around physical infrastructure, multiple systems and legacy platforms. The environment was becoming harder to support efficiently, created unnecessary complexity and limited the organisation's ability to modernise its technology and cybersecurity posture.

Approach

Aurora ICT developed a five-year technology strategy that provided a staged path from the existing environment to a simpler, more sustainable architecture.

The roadmap addressed infrastructure, applications, cybersecurity, supportability and platform modernisation, allowing changes to be sequenced over time rather than treated as disconnected technology projects. Aurora ICT supported the program through to completion.

Key initiatives included:

  • progressively removing dependence on physical servers
  • moving suitable workloads to modern SaaS platforms
  • using targeted Azure and AWS services where lightweight cloud infrastructure remained appropriate
  • simplifying the overall technology environment
  • strengthening cybersecurity controls and architecture
  • improving the efficiency and supportability of the technology environment
  • migrating the organisation's CMS to a modern platform
  • migrating the organisation's CRM to a modern platform

Outcome

The five-year transformation eliminated the organisation's physical server footprint and replaced a complex legacy environment with a substantially simpler combination of SaaS platforms and targeted cloud services.

The resulting environment was easier to support and manage, provided a stronger cybersecurity foundation and reduced the complexity associated with maintaining legacy infrastructure and applications.

  • Physical server footprint eliminated
  • Simpler SaaS-led technology environment
  • Improved cybersecurity posture
  • More efficient IT support
  • Reduced infrastructure complexity
  • Modernised CMS and CRM platforms
Cloud Architecture & Integration

ERP & Customer Portal Integration

Anonymised client engagement

Regaining ownership of business-critical integration services

Challenge

The organisation relied on integration code connecting its customer portal with its ERP platform, but the integration had been outsourced to a third party.

This created strategic dependency around a business-critical part of the organisation's technology environment and restricted its ability to control security, support arrangements and future development.

Approach

Aurora ICT developed a business case for bringing ownership of the integration back under the organisation's control.

The business case considered both the immediate technical requirements and the longer-term benefits of regaining ownership, including stronger cybersecurity control and the ability to choose from a broader range of support and development options.

Following approval of the direction, Aurora ICT:

  • developed a structured migration plan
  • designed and established the required AWS infrastructure
  • prepared the integration services for migration
  • transitioned the services from the third-party environment
  • moved all integration services successfully onto the new AWS environment

Outcome

The organisation regained control of a business-critical integration between its customer portal and ERP platform.

The migration reduced dependency on the original third party, provided a stronger foundation for cybersecurity governance and gave the organisation greater flexibility in how the integration could be supported and developed in the future.

  • Ownership of critical integration regained
  • Reduced third-party dependency
  • AWS infrastructure established
  • Integration services successfully migrated
  • Stronger cybersecurity control
  • Broader future support options
